What are the class sizes?
At the Tattoo Institute, we believe in the power of personalized learning. That's why our Tattoo Apprenticeship program is capped at just 8 students per class. Small class sizes ensures that eaapprentice will receive ample one-on-one time with our experienced instructors, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
What are the requirements to enroll?
For the Tattoo Apprenticeship program, all apprentices must be18 years or older and possess a background in art and drawing. We do welcome submissions in all forms of art for review, as we believe diverse experiences enrich our community.
Will I be a licensed tattoo artist upon completion?
Upon completion of our Tattoo Apprenticeship program you will have all required licenses to tattoo legally in the state of Florida. Apprentices from out of state can transfer their licenses within their states from here.
Will I actually tattoo people or just practice skin?
In our Tattoo Apprenticeship Program you'll begin your journey by practicing on fake skins, allowing you to get comfortable with the tattoo machine and learn essential techniques for lining, shading, and working with both color and black & grey inks. Each apprentice is also provided a fake arm to master the nuances of tattooing on the body's curves. Once you're ready, you'll have the opportunity to tattoo real clients or friends, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and confidence in your tattoo career. Majority of the time spent you will be tattooing on people.
Do you have scholarships?
Artists are invited to submit their artwork for a chance to receive a scholarship. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talent and passion for art. If you navigate to the Scholarship on this site you can apply there.
Do I have to buy my own equipment?
All apprentices will receive their own tattoo machine to keep, along with all necessary supplies provided at no additional cost. This ensures that everyone has access to the tools they need for a successful learning experience. Enjoy the convenience of having your own equipment without the burden of purchasing it! Upon paying the seat deposit, apprentices will also receive drawing supplies and a assignment book to get started on the drawing practices before the semester begins.
What happens when i pay the $500 deposit?
Once you’ve been accepted into the program, a $500 deposit is required to secure your spot for the selected semester. With class sizes capped at just 8 students, spots fill up quickly! Upon receiving your deposit, you’ll receive the Tattoo Apprenticeship Starter Package, which includes a specially designed drawing assignment book to help you master steady lines, shading, and coloring techniques. If you're local, we can meet in person for a lesson and progress before classes begin; otherwise, we’ll ship your package and conduct video calls to get you started. The balance of your tuition is due the week before the semester starts and on your first day, you’ll be assigned your station and receive your tattoo machine and setup.
Do you have student housing?
While we don’t have accommodations available, we suggest looking into nearby Airbnbs and short-term rentals in our area.
Once completing my apprenticeship what will my opportunities be?
Once you complete your apprenticeship at the Tattoo Institute of SWFL! You will have gained comprehensive knowledge in blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. You will have received the required licenses to work in Florida and built a portfolio showcasing your tattoo work on clients , along with a valuable tattoo shop reference that you worked in. This foundation will set you up for success as you embark on your professional tattooing career.
